And so it begins

They brought me into this world at 19:09, weighing 8lb 6oz, at Addenbrookes hospital. They thought I might have some trouble breathing so they whisked me off to the special care unit with my dad, but I was big and bright and perky compared with the others there, so after a quick check they sent me back to mum.

I met my grandma and grandad, and Sam, a doula, before they packed everything onto mums bed and wheeled us all down to the Lady Mary ward.

Escape from hospital

Gosh, I'm glad to be out of that place - we were all crammed in so tight, so many families with so much change going on. It was so hot and noisy there, and there were always other babies crying too. They say this is to be my home now, there's my mum, Adelle, my dad, Neil, and a furry brother called Mr Jecks, he's very curious. Grandma and grandad live nearby too, its a much nicer environment here, without all those blue curtains and nurses hurting me all the time.

Meeting great aunt Jane

My first visitors! Everyone seemed a bit surprised as they arrived just as they were getting readdy to sit down to have some food - grandad was bringing Chinese Takeaway, which my mum was looking forward to because she couldn't eat properly when I was inside her.

Visit from ambulance man

I don't think I like this world, its not cosy and warm like where I was before. There is space now, so I'm not all scrunched up any more, but its so much effort to breath and eat and everything. All I can do is scream. So I did. Lots.

They seemed worried, like I had screamed too much. So they called someone to check on me. Poor guy hit is head on the low beam as he came into the room to see me, he didn't seem too concerned but he did want to keep me observed for a while. To be honest it sounded he was relieved to be dealing with a baby rather than some drunken people fighting in a town centre somewhere, so he was quite happy to sit with me and make sure I was OK until his colleagues had finished mopping up the drunks.

Meeting great aunt Lisa

It was slightly less of a surpise meeting Auntie Lisa, she had arranged to come over for the afternoon.

Back to the hospital

I really don't like it out here. I screamed myself blue to get them to put me back where I came from, but they didn't understand. Instead they looked panicked and rushed me back to the hospital. We waited for ages to be seen, then were taken through to a curtained room where they weighed and measured and took samples and did lots of doctor stuff.

After a bit of looking and discussion they decided that they were worried that I might have some kind of infection and they should keep me in so they could keep an eye on my progress. Great, more hospital, just what I need.

But they've taken me to a different place this time, not so crowded, and I get my own room with a notice for everyone to wash their hands when they enter and leave, and everything.

Escape from hospital, redux

They were really helpful on ward C3, much better than when I was in Lady Mary, and they were all convinced I was going to be OK but they had to wait for the results from the tests they were taking before they could let me go home. But now, at last, they've let me out again. Its good to be home, it'll have to do for the moment at least.

Tomato festival at wimpole

We went to the Tomato Festival at Wimpole Hall. The growing season was a bit odd this year, so there weren't as many tomatoes ready as normal, but there were some different ones to taste.
